Ok this is getting a little ridiculous.  I am not lying when I saw that the R.I.A.A is suing a 12 yr old for downloading illegal songs.  This chirade has gone on long enough.  I mean come on it is insane  going  beyond after the big traders and taking on single people.  I don't think they realize not only how stupid this is but how bad for PR it is.

For example I was going to pick up the new Beyonce CD for the girlfried.  Now I am not going to just out of principle.  I'll just let her stick with the radio for now.  I personally don't use Kazaa anyways since I am anal about the quality of my music. But I sure as hell am goign to think twice about buying another CD for a while.

No, the 31% drop in sales couldn't POSSIBLY be because of the high prices and crappy music... it HAS to be the pirates! Laughing

Evil or Very Mad The musick industry has been porking consumers for years charging $14.99 and up for cds,I have no compassion for the musick publishers................The music suck, the bands suck.Boycott cds!!!!!!!!!!!
If they charged under $10 for a cd ,maybe you'll get my business back.

I used to pay 7.99 for cassettes, they would last a couple of years with moderate useage if you were lucky. So when CD's came out the music industry raised the price for them to about $15, because it was a new comsumer technology and they last for so long. I bought my Pink Floyd collection for the last time on CD's and will never pay for them again and haven't bought a non-floyd CD in like 10 years and don't plan on it ever.

For all it's nastiness, I can understand what they're doing.
They don't need to be loved. They are corp[orate lawyers... love is not part of their genetic makeup.

They want to be feared. Not just by bigtime pirates, but by as smalltimers.
Enough to make Kazaa seem too dangerous to use.

And it seems to be working. Some folks are giving up their filesharing ways. I certainly keep it slim, and never leave Kazaa on by default.

People go to Record stores nowdays to buy DVDs.
It's so obvious. Now that movies cost the same as an album, it's just what the common joe would rather buy.

As music with any depth to it rapidly gets pushed further into the fringes, why wold you pay serious money 90% of the fluff out there nowdays?

RIAA is the devil. I haven't bought a CD since the Santana compilation with rob thomas et al. No wait I bought a Live album or something... anyhow too many CD's are one song wonders. Lame.

Think of how much EXTRA content you get, on top of the movie itself, on a DVD.

Now look at a CD. No extra content, one good song, and generally cheap to boot.

I can make a copy of my friend's CD for a nickel...or buy an actual CD for 15$+...what am I gonna do? I understand they have to make SOME money, but 14$ on ONE sale is hardly a cup of tea.

Ultimately they are shooting themselves in the foot. Almost every company in the world REFRAINS from suing their customers because that makes them stop buying the products altogether. Also, you can't consider a downloaded MP3 loss of revenue since most of those people wouldn't buy the CD, MP3 or not.

I don't know about everyone else, but the minute I saw a subpeona from the RIAA about this I would permanently cease buying any and all CDs produced by american labels. Let my friend buy it and burn me a copy, as he undoubtedly will...and that way it's untraceable :p

Sometimes i hear the expression "This kind of thing only happens in America" when something bizarre happens.
Well, today that expression got reinforced.
