I would buy a new system also, but i am waiting for PCI-X video cards and Athlon 64 processor to hit the market.
But your system surely kicks some arse !!! I am very very impressed. |
There's always something bigger and better around the corner.... just a matter of how long you're willing to wait |
Amen to that... I'm working with a 1.8 P4, FX5600 from BFG, and 256 RD-800 RAM. .... *cries in shame* |
Hey! represent that stuff!
*has a 1.8a P4 w/ GF4-TI-4200 & 1gig of DDR2700 dual-channel * |
*points to Peoii's RAM*
See, I'm pretty fucked, RAM wise. That's why I'm gonna wait for a while and get new stuff. A long while. Like, long enough to pay for my new box. |
lol, ok, fair fair |

Well, if you look at my other specs, that's really the bottleneck of my PC. I could load maps and textures et al and take some strain off of my CPU if I had a nicer set of RAM. The PCs at Dragon*Con for example, had 1g each, and they ran NICE. The CPUs were only 2.4, at 1024x768, all details up and on, with FX5900's, they ran really nice..... but I'll go into that later Anyway, my RAM is really the choke point on my PC, and unfortunately, I'm fucked because I have an 850e Intel board, so I can't get DDR or any other kind of RAM.... |

Have I waited long enough yet?
I have a:
PII-400mhz
384 sdram
Voodoo 3 3000
WD 30.6 GB HD
Some cheap ass Creative Labs soundcard
Klipsh 2.1 Promedia
NEC Fe950+ monitor
(the last 2 are each worth more than the rest, lol)
This is my only computer.
So, if people want to start a Buy-Mark-a-REAL-computer fund......be my guest. |

Here's the interview with Mr. Sweeney on 64 bit tech.
I guess the important bit is: "We expect to support 32-bit and 64-bit clients and servers for gameplay, but might require 64-bit for content creation, because of the significant requirements of our new content development tools." |

Yeah, but this is my ONLY computer....I plan on using this computer for basically the same thing once I get a new one. I'll keep it mostly to run my old games that wont run on Win XP.

Damn...wist I had that kind of FPS...It does run fine most of the time, but it chugs on some maps(especially CTF-APVerII_DemoMap)...
Benchmark results:
Flyby:130.236938
Botmatch:47.054092
Here's my PC specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512 MB DDR RAM
Integrated nForce for sound that has problems with UEngine1 games(and Halo)
Radeon 9600 XT(mem OC'd to 666 MHz)
As much as I'd like to upgrade the processor, which is problably the bottleneck of my 1 1/2 year-old Compaq which my stepdad bought , he won't let me. Guess that in the next 2-3 years, I'll convince him to BUILD a PC FROM SCRATCH & possibly buy a better PC for the same amount of money as some crappy pre-built one. This worries me about the fact that, although I get HL2 for free, will it run well? Ah hell, just have to manage.
Comparison to a U-Engine Tweaking article:
I think I got around 70 FPS in Magma sometime ago, and that was with high world detail, dynamic lighting & some other options I don't remember, in addition to High Quality settings for D3D. Pretty impressive, considering the writer of the article had a better PC than I did... |
