Morning all, just a quick off-news day post that I felt was a pretty good read.  Gamespy has put together a cool article on 'What's next for Valve and Half Life 2?'  Now here is a quick comment from our fearless leader Tim Sweeney had to say about network security at gaming developer's offices."All the developers I know are putting a lot of effort into securing their networks now that very focused hacking efforts aimed at game developers have become known."Now the most interesting part of the article is the spot on what a hacker had to say about a release note saying the following."There was a release note claiming that Valve had lied all along about its planned Sept. 30 release of Half-Life 2 and vowed to release the entire stolen code and assets for the game to prove it unless Valve came clean."If that is true this would be a huge PR nightmare for Valve.  As this little episode would have never have happened if they had released the game on time.  Also if its true I want to know why the hell would you NOT release a game fans are starving for?  Feel free to hit the comments and chime in on this one.

What the hacker is doing is just friggin wrong, no matter how you try and justify it. This is bad for the entire industry, not just Valve.

I'm surprised you would make a comment like this. I would assume you mean "If it's finished.....why the hell NOT release.....blah blah blah"

You know as well as anyone else here how much of a disaster releasing an unfinished, untested game can be. Shocked

Yes Kharn I meant if it was finished they should have released it. Angel I am not condoning the actions I am just stating the obvious.

ummm imo gabe newell saying initilly that he hadn't heard a thing about the release date being pushed back and then later changing his mind or something like that leads me to believe that they DID have the game ready for a 9-30 launch and Vivendi made them wait until the holidays anyways to generate more revenue.

It really wouldn't surprise me if this whole thing could have been avoided by a simple press release.

Valve has been working on the game for a long, long time. I find it hard to believe they weren't targeting September 30th like they said they would.

It's called a delay, people, it happens. Wink

No I gotta agree with Brizz on this one. Remember that Valve said AFTER VU did that they were still trying for the 30th. Something definitely smells fishy and I wish Valve would just say something to clear it all up.

Sad

I figured as much. Just wanted to clear things up to any other readers out there.

As for Valve, if they want to hold back that's fine (I'm sure they'd have good reasons) but, I agree they should at least let us know beforehand.
