Just lurking in the Atari Forums at school, I saw this thread, which had this quote:The bomber is in - it is a callable airstrike. Paint a target and it swoops in and blows the crap out of everything in the area.

CliffAlrighty then... my question now is whether or not the Bomber can be shot down before delivering its payload... thoughts?

sounds awsome!

dunno if you can shoot it.
it will be pretty fast i think. some weapon projectiles move slow (rockets etc)
the faster weapons need more ammo to blow something up.. so if you CAN blow it up, it will be hard to do.

it must drop quite a few bombs, or big ones. else you wont hit.
so the vehicle must be big to.
what if you shoot it, and it crashes Very Happy that would look cool!

and i think the enemy would be pissed off if you bomb their base, and right after that running in with a few teamamtes and destroy the core Twisted Evil

Yeah, like I posted in the Atari forums, I think it would be cool if it would be vulnerable to your fire, but moreso, I think it would be cool if you could shoot it down, and then it goes crashing down to the ground, so its now a big ass firey projectile itself. Would be strategically interesting because as a defender you would then want to shoot it down before it gets near your base or you risk it crashing into you, but then you have to weigh that against the possibility of dropping its payload. So you'd have to weigh the magnitude of the possible damages for the 2 senarios and try to pick one, but then there is also the possibility of you shooting it down just as its dropping the bombs resulting in you getting creamed by both, hehe...and then from an attacking standpoint, you could risk trying to shoot the thing down so that both happen, but you'd want to make sure that you dont shoot it down too early, etc etc etc....anyhow please excuse the rambling, I just rather enjoy the strategy and dynamics behind the gameplay, and the whole bomber thing certainly brings an interesting new dynamic to the game.

Actually I think SquirrelKing did a good job of keeping a long passage interesting (kept me reading) even despite the non-use of paragraphs. Some good ideas, but I'm most interested to see how they're going to differenciate it from the Ion Cannon. Maybe there won't be a line to the target visible by the enemy but the enemy could know when the bombs are coming because of a whooshing noise. And then they'd be all scurrying around trying to avoid the bombs but not exactly sure where they'll hit.... classic in the making here, people.

I would think it very unlikely that you would be able to shoot it down. It should make for a nice addition to the super-weapon arsenal.

maybe it drops Redeemer kinda bombs. maybe not that big blast.
but if you hear the plane above you. look up and start shooting the crap out of the falling bombs. the plane wont come down, but you can destroy the bombs..

isnt that a good way?

I think that the primary difference between the Ion Cannon and the bomber should be the time it takes - maybe make the Ion Cannon instantaneous rather than painting an area for 5 seconds, and make the bomber more powerful, but require a wait like the current IC.
