Ok in rather unusual fashion I am doing a Random Thoughts in the middle of the week. I just saw Kill Bill last night and left the theatre talking with Grinner about how dissapointed in the movie I was. Not because it sucked and not because the main story was bad but the fact that it is INSANELY gory. I mean to the point where it is pointless. I felt that it actually took away from what could have been a cool revenge storyline.
Now to top it all off a sports writer has chimed in his two cents about it and it gets him fired! What the hell ever happened to free speech. First Limbaugh makes a comment that could be true (I don't like him so don't even go there) and gets toasted and now a normal guy can't even make a comment without ESPN flipping out. I have lost a lot of respect for ESPN due to their recent actions. But getting back on track. Do you guys feel the too much gore is ruining good movies? (i.e. Blade 2 and Kill Bill) |

their are certain things you can never have enough. One of them is money and anotherone is mindless gore and violence in movie's and games. |

I’ve not seen Kill Bill, but has anyone seen The Wishmaster? |

Kill Bill's over-the-top gore was almost a parody, I don't think it was meant to be taken seriously. Kinda like the cheesy storyline. |

Parody or not I still think it was wayyy wayy too much and took away from a cool storyline. I hope the second part focuses more on the story and less on the gore. |

I haven't seen Kill Bill yet (take out the L's and spaces and it's the name of my cat ) so I don't know exactly how gory it is, but I think some kinds of gratuitous gore are acceptable. Really nasty gore... like eyeball-gouging and wrist-cutting and various horrid stuff like that really is unacceptable (and ruined Total Recall from what I remember of it) but the bloody, over-the-top kind of gore (as in Blade 1, haven't seen the sequel yet) can serve to make a film more fun. |

The second Kill Bill, my cousin (utter film-buff) assures me, will be much less gory and more character driven. More Pulp Fiction and less Dusk Till Dawn, if you get my meanin’. |

Ya know I didn't find it that bad, gore-wise.
I mean, massive firehose sprays of blood are so ridiculous that you cant take them seriously. Seen other movies that made me squirm much more.
It was like Unreal Tournament... the characters are there for the purpose of being slaughtered in nasty ways. You dont feel sorry for them, you dont feel their pain because they aren't "real".
If Tarantino had attempted to make the characters more personal, then it would have mattered more. |

I am not saying that I am offended because it was too realistic I just felt taht last fight seen was unnecessarily too messy. I mean he was paying tribute to old Bruce Lee flicks and Uma's outfit was a cool touch but Bruce's movies used minimal gore and it created an astonding effect on me.
Same situation with Blade 2. Great special effects, cool storyline and way, way too much detail in the massive killing. I mean any person with an imagination can figure out what it looks like. A great example of good gore to storyline is The Shining (original). Yes there were scene that had a ton of blood but it was used to give a feeling of massive death and suffering. To me that movie creep me out more than any other gory/scary movie ever did. The only ones that came close are The Exocist and Price of Darkness.
So unless he wanted a 'Bordello of Blood' type movie then I think he went too far. |

Oh well. Just have to agree to disagree. I thought the fight with the Crazy 88's was excellent. |

i thought it was a good movie, the gore was part of the art of the movie, like the cartoon animation and the weird "cheesy" feel to the movie. |

well the first Kill Bill was suppose to be japaneese anime shows and samurai movies style so the gore had to be in the right proporsions. saying that the gore ruins the movie is just silly because you have no idea what japaneese culture makes of it. it's not just doing it cool, in the anime it was creating a tense atmosphere in battles. I thought Kill Bill captured the anime style very well and everything seemed to match. the cartoon part was exactly like how non-japaneese drawers draw anime like... exactly, seen it over and over again but well at least they are not hating anime ^^ but in anime the characters don't stop in a katana fight... they talk and look "kakkoii" (cool in japaneese) there they just stopped |

Finally seen it: Good direction, nice acting (especially for an action movie), spiffy fighting. REALLY REALLY BAD SCRIPT. Kill Bill would have been so much better if it actually had a plot- or even if they just cut out the early parts in the movie and moved Uma straight to Okinawa (or wherever it was). I recommend that if Tarantino wants to know how to properly do a revenge film, he should play Max Payne. For everyone else I recommend playing Max Payne 2. Best game ever (other than Ecco 1&2 for the MegaDrive ) |
