Anyone noticed that a leaked beta of XMP is currently available? Just noticed today when I was getting my latest fix of That 70s Show direct from the US...

Yeah, we know. There have been a couple of leaks (and a couple of banned CD keys Wink), but they're never up to date. I think the last leak was 5823, which was *checks* two patches ago.
About all you can do with a leak though is mess around on your own computer, not online (which is the whole point of the gametype) Smile

I don't see why they're so strict about it, it's not like XMP's going to cost anything when it's released, and presumably Unreal 2 is needed to run the beta. Do you know if there's any bots for it?

Don't forget that XMP will be part of the U2 XBox release. They won't make much coin off the PC patch, but their XBox live version will probably be a selling point.

(I probably shouldn't say this, but oh well) FYI, you don't need U2 to run the beta. You WILL need it for the final though.

And lastly... there aren't any and won't be any bots. They're much too stupid for XMP's comlexity Wink

Eek! Then the game is doomed. I'm sure it's possible to make bots capable of playing XMP with a smidgen of decency, I've always been impressed by Unreal engine AI. But I suppose if they did that, they'd have to push the release date back by about a year...

Doomed? Why do you say that? I think bots would just get in the way. In XMP, everyone has to work together to win. Sometimes its better to be down a player than to have a total idiot on your side. Wink

XMP = Awesome. It won't be doomed if one person plays it and tells his/her friend, then they tell, and so on Wink

Even though I'm beta testing it, I still don't think XMP will survive past UT2004...

don't get me wrong it is GREAT! but I much prefer the style of 2k3/2k4 much more. The gameplay is too slow, it has a VERY high learning curve, and you can't play it offline because there are no bots (big turnoff to dialup players and those without internet access).

Oh well, I'll play it a little still, but I stick to 2k3 even now.

Halo blows. It was good on the box, but it totally eats randy goat balls on the PC.

MP2 rules, plain and simple.

Right now I've just picked up Silent Hill 2 for the PC (didn't even know it was available for PC?????????) and I want to see how that goes. Apparently, Silent Hill is sposed to be one of the most creepy games of all time.
