Editors Day you say? Correctamundo. A day where people interested in hearing what NVIDIA has to offer currently and in the future, can get those questions out, and people can move get the facts straight from the horses mouth. ATI fans might think this is similar to ATI's recent ATI Shader Day, however, you'd be mistaken in that belief... Read onward to find out why.
The guys over at FiringSquad have done a great job giving us a full overview of the days events, including an interview with none other than our beloved Epic representative himself, Tim Sweeney! Infact, he had a couple interesting things to say about DirectX 9 with relationship to hardware manufacturing:
The DirectX9 spec defines a core feature set that all implementations must have, plus a set of optional capabilities. Unfortunately, the set of optional capabilities ranges from multiple render target to floating-point precision (some vendors use 24-bit, others use 32-bit, but potentially a vendor with some bizarre 19-1/2 bit format could claim DirectX9 compliance).
What does all this techno-babble mean? Well, it's trying to show that some companies (like ATI) only use a 24-bit path, where developers on the whole really want the 32-bit path that is offered by other companies (such as nVidia).
There's plenty more informational tidbits where that came from, so why not head on over and read the whole article for yourself? You can find the link right here. |

If I'm not mistaken, nVidia has at least two modes, (32bit, and I think a 16 bit). Not just solely a 32 bit floating-point precision... |

I didn't mean to imply that they only made 32bit, I simply wanted to point out what was in the article about ATI making 24-bit for their radeon series. Nothing more. |

hmmm, theres 32 and 64 bit's for a processor, and 24 and 32 for the vid cards. is it better if you keep the same together? (32 bit CPU and 32 vid card) |
