Pariah Tweaks and Info Guide

Welcome to the Unreal Ops Pariah Tweaks and Info Guide. This guide is put together by all of the cool fans out there that dare to experiment in the benefit of making the game more fun. I will try and add things to this article as they come out and to make sure we give proper credit. If we have something wrong please feel free to drop us a line to have it edited.

The first set of tweaks and arguably the most important set comes to us courtesy of Larathiel of Clan Kore. He is a long time Unreal Engine fan and shares the following information. Hey has noticed that Pariah's FOV seems to be restricted probably due to that it was originally designed for the Xbox. The game also turns off dodging by default. This makes the game feel a little 'slow' and with it enable it gives a little bit of a 'UT Feel' to it. Here is what he wrote.

    Dodging and FOV Tweaks:

"For those of you who would like to try this out for yourselves, whether for fun or to offer constructive criticism...

I've found that Pariah often resets changes made directly to the ini when it loads. Therefore, it may be necessary for you to enter these commands manually from the console ingame (the ~ key).

I myself have pasted the following commands into "myINI.bat" in my Pariah\system folder. Upon loading the game, I then open the console and type "exec myINI.bat". Do this before you connect to a game server or host a game.

    myINI.bat:
    set Engine.PlayerInput bEnableDodging true
    set Engine.Pawn bWeaponBob False
    fov 90

For some reason, the FOV change doesn't always take during pre-game, but that command at least you should be able to enter from in-game: "fov ##".

There are doubtless other tweaks you can apply that will enhance the feel of the game for your tastes, but for me just enabling dodging, turning off the annoying weapon bob (who walks like that, really?) and fixing the field of view made a world of difference."

where is the "myini.bat" file in the system folder?

To make it, right click in white space go to new > text document
then open it, put whatever u want in it, and rename it to myini.bat

note: you dont have to change it to .bat for it to work. you can just type exec myini.txt if ya want.
The next few tidbits of information come courtesy of FBMachine who frequents the Beyond Unreal and Unreal Playground forums. He has put together descriptions of the different weapon upgrades that are possible.

    Weapon Upgrades:

Here's my list of what each upgrade does for each weapon. The only one I can't really figure out is the 3rd grenade launcher upgrade. I can't see any difference from the 2nd upgrade.

    Bulldog
-1st upgrade increases rate of fire.
-2nd upgrade decreases the weapon kick so it basically increases the accuracy.
-3rd upgrade simply makes it stronger, very strong in fact.

    Sniper
    -1st upgrade adds thermal vision.
-2nd upgrade increases the clip size.
    -3rd upgrade makes it stronger.

    Rocket Launcher
-1st upgrade adds heat seaking ability.
-2nd upgrade lets you shoot 2 heat seaking rockets at 2 targets simultaniously.
-3rd upgrade lets you shoot at 4 target simultaniously.

    Frag Rifle
-1st upgrade speed up the reload process.
-2nd upgrade tightens the spread for more damage in a smaller area.
    -3rd upgrade makes it stronger.

Courtesy of Inferny: at level two and level 3, when you miss and hit a wall/floor/ground at close range, it leaves a shard of metal there, if you hit them while they are lcose to that shard with the frag rifle, that shard acts like a mine, and flys into them, adding to the damage

    Heal Tool
-1st upgrade speeds up the healing process.
-2nd upgrade adds an extra bar to your health.
-3rd upgrade adds another bar to your health and lets you use sprint for a much longer stretch of time.

    Plasma Gun
-1st upgrade lets you shoot a plasma ball if you hold down fire then release after it charges. It can damage on impact, but it also zaps people it flies near. It dies when it hits a wall or the ground.
-2nd upgrade makes it so it doesn't die when it hit the ground or a wall, it instead stays there and zaps anything that goes by it.
-3rd upgrade basically makes the zaps much stronger.

    Grenade Launcher
-1st upgrade adds remote detonation. You can still fire multiple grenades by holding down fire, then you can detonate them all at once.
-2nd upgrade sucks up shrapnel as it flies through the air, and shoots out shards when it explodes like a flak ball.
-3rd upgrade sticks to the target rather than detonating on impact.
He goes on to share other random bits of useful information.

Random bits of info I picked up while playing that might help some -
The health bars work like in Riddick. They recharge automatically unless the entire bar is drained, in which case you need to use the heal tool to get the drained bars back.

To use the secondary function of the plasma gun after you upgrade it ( the plasma ball ), just hold down the fire button til you hear a charging noise. It'll use a bit of ammo, but really I didn't have any problems with running out of ammo in the CTF map, ammo hording doesn't really seem to be a big part of this game.

To upgrade a weapon, open the weapon menu by hitting X, then click on one of your weapons. To upgrade the first level of a gun you need just 1 weapon upgrade core, for the second upgrade you need 2, and so on.
You pick up weapon upgrade cores from dead bodies, they look pink-ish tan.

Hit F to go into sprint mode. It lowers your weapon and the screen blurs, and your running speed is increased.
The next bit of information comes to us courtesy of JaFo.

    Weapon Energy Cores:

I'm not sure what the exact frequency is, but it's definitely not a 50/50 chance of ammo / WEC.
    I'd guess it's something like 1 in 4 or 5 frags.

Note that it pretty much discourages camping/long range kills, because you're forced to go out there and get it.

The only problem I foresee is that a *beep* of a teammate start fighting about who 'deserves' the WEC.

    The upgrade-cost is :
    - 1 for 1st level
    - 2 for 2nd level
    - 3 for 3rd level
So 6 WEC's for a the maximum level of a weapon.

btw : servers can set the number of initial WEC's
so it can help to check if you've already got some at the start
a server that gives everyone 18 WEC's therefor allows everyone to upgrade all of their equipment (2 weapons + injector) at first spawn.

And did someone mention the bonesaw/melee-weapon hiding under the 'Q'-key?
Kaz sent us an email with instructions on how to make your Ini read only so you don't have to use a special Ini file.

Making Your Ini File Read Only:
For the bWeaponBob variable, you can just set it in Pariah.ini (make sure to save).

For the FOV and bEnableDodging variables, you can set them in your profile INI. So if you used the default "Mason" profile, you'd find Mason.ini in the Pariah/System folder. Within YourProfile.ini, change these two variables as you wish, then save, then right-click your INI file, select properties and change it to Read-only. Hit Apply and you're good to go.
If you have anything that you would like to add or have seen please email me the information alone with the original writer's name. Pariah started out a little rough but with everyone's help we can help the DE Team make it into something special.
