It has been posted on the Gearbox Forums that the company plans to release a new Custom Edition of Halo.
Quote: |
So what is the purpose of HaloCE? HaloCE was created as a way for Gearbox to introduce a bunch of new features to HaloPC. The most important of which is the ability to play user created content.
Along with HaloCE we will also be releasing a set of tools, tutorials and source art which we call the Halo Editing Kit (HEK). This is a powerful package which will allow users to create their own custom content for HaloCE.
When released it is our hope that this new version of the game will become the first choice for all HaloPC players. We look forward to sharing more information with you and answering your questions about this exciting release |

I'd buy HaloCE... but I can't open my wallet. That would require two hands, and I only have one free one - the other is still busy giving the finger to Bungie. |

...
This unsupported version of HaloPC is a stand alone Gearbox Software release and is not supported by Microsoft.
...
|
Ok ... so Bungie made it ... then MS published it (and made sure it didn't run on its original target) and now there's Gearbox ???
Never mind that the custom-content isn't even officially supported by either entity. |

I would have to disagree with you on that one Sir. I love UT2004 for MP but Halo still owns all other SP games right now. |

Oh, Tycho... dear, dear, Tycho. Have you played FarCry, Painkiller, or Manhunt? All of them are truly superb games. Halo was fun, yes, but... ah, stake gun! Can anyone disagree with the coolness that is nailing a demon samurai to a wall? |

perhaps you've played a different Halo, but I thought it was boring & needlessly repetitive ... of course that was the Xbox-version.
So perhaps the pc-version was fun to play despite the bugs and low framerates I saw in the demo ???
Painkiller ? Yuck ... staking is nice, but not if you're doing it to a hundred demon-thingies.
FC probably would have been the best of these 3 ... if it hadn't been for Ubisoft releasing the game before it was ready and adding that damned copy-protection on top of it.
Either of these games made Unreal 2 look like a classic game instead of the average fps it was IMHO ... |

Soz Tychy, I'm with Jafo on the Halo front. It does have pretty fun multiplayer, a nice break from frantic AS matches sometimes; but the SP level design is hideous, the enemies stupid (as in concept and appearance, the AI is impressive), the graphics heavier on my graphics card than a pack of tyrannosaurs. This being a graphics card that's been the very definition of reliability for everything else I've played. Plus dull weapons, which feel weird to use as the crosshairs are so ludicrous. Vehicles ain't bad though.
I do think Painkiller is a good game, nice looking too, but it just isn't to everyone's taste- mine included. Not a judgement on the game, it's just not one I'd go for- in a similar way that I respect RPGs but I don't buy them.
Far Cry... fantastic game, but I won't be able to have fun with it until I can run it with all the detail levels maxed. (or most of them anyway)
I'm sure there was another reason for writing this post. I can't remember now though. Humbug! |

I must have a better imaginatin that you two. Seriously though Co-op Halo on the Xbox is one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. Not since Duke Nukem on a 14.4 modem did I swear at my friends and laugh so much. For those just joining the convo Co-op is considering SP with friends in my humble opinion. I tried the Far Cry demo and it was not too bad. I may have to pick up the retail copy. I can't stress how much I am longing for a decent Co-op game. |

Ah... well, HaloPC was lacking Co-Op. So, yes, I can sympathize. |

// Tycho :
Stay away from Far Cry if you value your sanity.
The copy-'protection' actively searches for anything it considers the cause of warez.
ie :
CD-writer ? you're doomed
virtual cd-emulator-thingies installed (even though you're not using them for this game) ? you're boned as well ...
picky cd-rom-drive ? ditto ...
Of course you could either uninstall & disable the stuff, but that's beside the point that you shouldn't have to do so.
In short : Ubisoft's attitude sucks.
They sure as hell aint' seeing any of my cash since they started with that stuff.
Say what you will about Epic/Atari ... at least they're one of the few that disable the copy-protection in a patch, unlike Ubisoft which actually managed to make it worse ... |
